Local SEO for HVAC · Nationwide

Most of your repair revenue is decided off-site

Three local results sit above the organic listings, and on repair and emergency queries they take most of the clicks. Almost nothing that decides those three positions is on your website. If you have recently paid for a rebuild and rankings did not move, this is usually why, and it is also the cheapest thing on this site to fix.

Three local slots / Mostly off-site signals / From $65 a month

Why proximity dominates this trade

A homeowner with no heat is not shopping nationally.

Search engines weight proximity heavily when a query implies someone needs help now, and HVAC produces more of those queries than almost any other trade. That is why the map results sit above everything else on repair terms and why a contractor two suburbs away is not really your competition on them.

The consequence is one contractors find counterintuitive. A business with an ordinary website and a well maintained profile routinely outranks one with an excellent website and a neglected profile, because most of the signal being measured is not on either website. Rebuilding a site to fix repair rankings is one of the most expensive ways to solve the wrong problem.

The four things that actually move it

Categories, service area, review activity, and consistency.

Primary category constrains which searches you can appear for at all, and it is wrong more often than contractors expect. A company doing mostly replacements sitting under a generic contractor label is competing for a narrower set of queries than it realizes, and content cannot compensate.

Service area is the second. Drawn too tightly it misses the overflow demand that appears during a peak, which is some of the most profitable work of the year. Drawn too wide it thins relevance everywhere and generates calls you have to turn down.

Review recency matters more than review totals, because a steady flow signals an operating business while a large dormant total signals one that used to be busy. Consistency across everything listing you is the fourth, and the least interesting to fix.

  • Primary and secondary categories matched to the work you want
  • Service area covering overflow demand, not only your daily radius
  • Hours that are accurate, including what happens after hours
  • A steady review flow rather than occasional pushes
  • Name, address and phone identical everywhere they appear

What local SEO costs

Local work is included in every tier rather than sold separately. What rises with the tier is how many keywords and service areas are covered and how much authority is built behind them.

Where the website still matters

Less than you would hope, but not nothing.

Location relevance on the site supports the profile rather than replacing it. Pages that name your genuine service areas, content that reflects the work you do in them, and a contact page whose details match the profile exactly all reinforce what the profile is claiming.

Mobile behavior matters here more than anywhere else on the site, because this traffic is almost entirely phones held one handed by someone who is uncomfortable. A number that is not a tappable link, or a first screen that talks about company history instead of availability, wastes the position you paid to earn.

What we do, in order

Cheapest and fastest first, because that ordering is genuinely optimal here.

Profile configuration comes first because it costs almost nothing and frequently uncaps the account immediately. Categories, service area, hours, and the details that have to match the website. That work is usually finished within the first fortnight.

Review process comes next, because it compounds and takes months to show its full effect. Then location relevance on the site, then authority building, because a stronger domain lifts local positions as well as organic ones. Running that order in reverse is common and it wastes the first quarter.

  • Profile audit and reconfiguration, usually inside two weeks
  • A review request process that runs continuously rather than in campaigns
  • Service area content on the site that supports rather than repeats the profile
  • Consistency cleanup across the listings that matter
  • Authority building, which lifts local and organic positions together

Why a local agency is not required

An honest answer to the most common objection.

We work nationally and remotely, so we are almost certainly not local to you. That comes up constantly and it is worth addressing plainly rather than avoiding. Local SEO does not require a local agency. What it requires is access to your profile, accurate service area data and review activity.

None of those depend on geography. What does depend on geography is understanding your market, and that comes from you rather than from an office postcode. A local agency that has never worked an HVAC seasonality calendar is less useful than a remote one that has.

What this will not do

Three limits worth stating before you buy.

It will not overcome distance. If you are twenty miles from a suburb, you will struggle to hold a map position there against contractors based inside it, and no amount of work changes the geography. What it can do is capture that area during peaks when nearer contractors are booked.

It will not fix an operational problem either. A profile that ranks well while calls go to voicemail converts visibility into negative reviews, which then costs you on every other term. And it will not produce results in weeks. Profile fixes can move quickly, but the authority work underneath still takes three to six months.

  • Distance cannot be overcome, only worked around during peaks
  • Visibility without capacity produces reviews that damage everything else
  • Profile fixes move fast; the authority underneath does not

Questions about local SEO

What is local SEO for HVAC contractors?

The work that decides whether you appear in the three local results above the organic listings. Most of it sits outside your website: business profile configuration, service area accuracy, hours, review activity, and consistency across everything that lists your business.

Why does my competitor outrank me with a worse website?

Almost always the profile rather than the site. Local position is driven by category accuracy, proximity, review volume and review recency, none of which live on the website. A plain site with an active profile beats a polished site with a neglected one routinely.

Do you need to be local to do local SEO?

No. The work needs access to your profile, accurate service area data and review activity, none of which depend on where we sit. Understanding your market matters more than proximity, and that comes from you rather than from our address.

How quickly does local SEO work?

Profile configuration can move positions within weeks because it removes a cap rather than building something new. The authority work underneath still takes three to six months. Anyone promising sustained local movement in thirty days is describing the first part and charging for both.

How wide should my service area be?

The area you would genuinely send a truck to on a busy day. That is usually wider than your daily radius, because peaks pull demand from further out, and much narrower than the whole metro.

Should I create separate pages for every town I serve?

Only where you can write something genuinely specific about working there. A set of pages differing by nothing but the town name is the pattern search engines treat as low value, and it can hold back the pages that would otherwise perform. Fewer, more substantial area pages consistently do better.

What happens to local rankings if I move premises?

They shift with you, and the surrounding suburbs reweight accordingly. The important part is updating every listing at the same time rather than over several months, because a period of disagreement between your listings costs more than the move itself does.

Do photos on the business profile matter?

They help, mostly through engagement rather than as a direct signal. A profile with recent photographs of real work looks like an operating business, which affects whether someone chooses you from three similar results. Stock imagery does the opposite and is usually recognizable as such.

What should we do about a bad review that is unfair?

Respond once, calmly, with the facts and without arguing. The response is not written for the person who left it, it is written for the next several hundred people who read it while deciding whether to call you. A measured reply under a harsh review reliably does more good than the review does harm.
